Michael Morpurgo is one of the UK’s best-loved children’s authors. He has written well over 100 books for children, including Kensuke’s Kingdom, which won the Children’s Book award in 2000, and War Horse, which was adapted for an award winning stage production at the National Theatre and then the West End.

Michael was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2003 and was awarded an OBE for his services to Literature in 2007. Michael has recently presented BBC Radio 4’s flagship programme, The Invention of Childhood. His most recent novel is Alone on a Wide, Wide Sea.

Farms for City Children was founded by Michael Morpurgo and his wife, Clare thirty years ago at Nethercott Farm in Devon. The charity now owns three working farms, where groups of schoolchildren and their teachers stay for a week at a time, getting involved in all aspects of farm life.

The children come from cities and towns around the country.  Their farm visit is a unique and magical experience, where together they learn about teamwork, about country life, about food and where it comes from – amongst many, many other things.  For further information call Helen Chaloner on 01837-810573.
