The Piccolo Music group, run for 12 years by our friends Abi Cotton and Anna Scantlebury, is in the running to scoop the top prize from the UK’s biggest parenting site Netmums.com.

The activity class, which runs at St Teresa’s RC Church Hall in Heaton on Thursdays, provides fun filled live music making for families with babies and small children.

Now the class will go through to the final national vote with winners announced on June 21.

Abi and Anna are urging local parents to vote for the class and put Piccolo Music on the map.

Abi said: “Families love the chance to sing and enjoy making music together, and we’re frequently told it’s their favourite thing to do: sing Piccolo songs, be in the band, and really get stuck into making music.”

Last year over a million mums cast their votes as part of the awards. Voting is open until June 17, simply go to the Newcastle section of Netmums.com and vote.

Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard said: “All the evidence shows that fun pre-school activities help kids blossom and give parents fun time too. That’s why we wanted to celebrate all they have to offer with these awards.

“Local mums and dads will be delighted to know Newcastle has some of the best classes in the country.”
