abracaDABra! is presenting a BBC story-series for the Summer Holidays. ‘Monsters & Magic Bedtime Stories’, read by well known personalities, are produced by BBC Sussex to raise funds for the Rainbow Trust SMILE Appeal which helps children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Scheduled each Saturday and Tuesday at 7pm, the series showcases winning entries from a BBC Sussex writing competition for adult listeners. The 12 stories are a mix of funny, scary and adventurous tales all involving dragons, magic and monsters.
Familiar voices reading the tales include Patrick Bergin, Sid Sloane from Cbeebies and former Magpie host, Susan Stranks, who is Director of abracaDABra!
“We’re thrilled to be airing these imaginative stories by such talented aspiring writers and we hope it may lead to greater partnership with the BBC for the benefit of younger listeners” says Susan, who co-ordinates the ‘Sound Start’ research programme into the value of radio to children’s listening and speaking.
“The Rainbow Trust is doing a lot of work to help children keep smiling” says Sid from CBeebies “The radio station is supporting them and that’s a great thing. Buy the CD – I’m on it – buy it!”
The Bedtime Stories CD cost just £5 and can be bought from the BBC Shops in Brighton and Eastbourne, by calling the BBC Sussex Actiondesk on 0800 88 88 06.
