Children’s radio service abracaDABra! is to show-case a series of BBC Breathing Places Nature Tales featuring characters from the Cbeebies Green Balloon Club. abracadabra! broadcasts daily on the Play Radio UK network.
This is the second BBC partnership for the pioneering station which also aired the Monsters & Magic Bedtime Stories from a BBC Radio Sussex writing competition to promote adult literacy.
BBC Breathing Places Nature Tales, read by Huw Edwards, will be scheduled at 8am and 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the autumn term.
BBC Breathing Places inspires children and families to explore and play outdoors and create nature spaces on their own door-steps.
The eco-friendly stories follow the Green Balloon Club team as they help out their wildlife friends. abracaDABra! will also carry links to the BBC Breathing Places website, which has nature tips and activities for families.

“We’re delighted to be working with abracaDABra Radio. By broadcasting these stories they are promoting an important wildlife message to young radio listeners, as well as providing a wonderful educational service for children on the airwaves.” , said Eleanor Fell, BBC Learning Project Manager, who co-ordinates the BBC Breathing Places campaign in the South East.
abracaDABra! director, Susan Stranks, explains, “The BBC Trust has called for ‘practical partnerships’ to reduce the PSB deficit and our aim is to show how well they can work”.
